SEÇİLMİŞ MAKROEKONOMİK GÖSTERGELER İLE KRİPTO PARA BİRİMLERİ ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİ ÜZERİNE EKONOMETRİK BİR ANALİZ

Abstract

Dünya ekonomisinde giderek önem kazanan hem yatırım hem de ödeme aracı olarak görülen ve 2008 yılında Bitcoin'le birlikte ortaya çıkan kripto para birimleri, teknolojik değişim ve dönüşümün getirdiği yeniliklerin en önemlisi olmuştur. Kripto para birimleriyle yapılan işlemler elektronik ortamda, şifreli bir şekilde, aracı kurum olmadan gerçekleştiği ve bu para birimlerini denetleyen merkezi bir otorite olmadığı için yatırımcılar için aynı zamanda avantaj niteliğinde olup günden güne yatırımcıların ve araştırmacıların ilgisini üzerine çekmeyi başarmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Covid-19 pandemi dönemi öncesi ve Covid-19 pandemi dönemi baz alınarak en popüler kripto para birimi olan Bitcoin ve Ethereum ile çeşitli makroekonomik göstergeler arasındaki ilişkinin uzun ve kısa dönem açısından incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmada yöntem olarak değişkenler arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişkinin tespiti için Fourier eşbütünleşme testi ve kısa dönemli ilişkinin tespiti için ise kazandıran ve kaybettiren dönemlerde pozitif ve negatif şokların dikkate alındığı Hatemi-J asimetrik nedensellik testi kullanılmıştır. Fourier eşbütünleşme testi bulgularına göre, hem Covid-19 pandemi öncesi dönemde hem de Covid-19 pandemi döneminde kripto paralar ile seçili makroekonomik göstergeler arasında uzun dönemli eşbütünleşme ilişkisinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Hatemi-J asimetrik nedensellik testi bulgularına göre ise kripto paraların pozitif ve negatif şokları ile diğer makroekonomik değişkenlerin pozitif ve negatif şokları arasında hem tek hem de çift yönlü nedensellik ilişkisinin olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Since transactions made with cryptocurrencies are carried out electronically, in an encrypted manner, without intermediary institutions and there is no central authority controlling these currencies, it is also an advantage for investors and manages to attract the attention of investors and researchers day by day. In this study, it is aimed to examine the relationship between the most popular crypto currency Bitcoin and Ethereum and various macroeconomic indicators in terms of long and short term, based on the pre-Covid-19 pandemic period and the Covid-19 pandemic period. In the study, the Fourier cointegration test was used to determine the long-term relationship between the variables, and the Hatemi-J asymmetric causality test, in which positive and negative shocks were taken into account in the winning and losing periods, was used to determine the short-term relationship. According to the Fourier cointegration test findings, it has been determined that there is a long-term cointegration relationship between cryptocurrencies and selected macroeconomic indicators both in the pre-Covid-19 pandemic period and during the Covid-19 pandemic period. According to the Hatemi-J asymmetric causality test findings, it was concluded that there is both a unidirectional and bidirectional causality relationship between the positive and negative shocks of cryptocurrencies and the positive and negative shocks of other macroeconomic variables.
