H.1255 TARİHLİ 3737 NUMARALI MUSUL EYALETİ, MUSUL MERKEZ KAZASI NÜFUS DEFTERİNİN TRANSKRİPSİYON VE DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Abstract

Osmanlı Devleti'nde, modern anlamda ilk nüfus sayımları II. Mahmut döneminde, 1829 yılında başlanmış ve XX. Yüzyılın başlarına kadarda devam etmiştir. Düzenli aralıklarla yapılmayan, askeri ve iktisadi amaçlar doğrultusunda olan bu sayımlar, ilk olarak 1828-1829 yıllarında bir sayım yapıldıysa da savaş nedeniyle tamamlanamamıştır. Bunun ardından 1830-1831 de genel bir nüfus sayımı yoluyla ülkede erkek nüfus belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Ayrıca bazı dönemlerde halkın nüfusunu ve mal varlığını görmek üzere sayımlarda yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmada da anlaşılacağı üzere nüfus defterleri, nüfus sayımları, halkın mensup olduğu din, etnik köken, sağlık sorunları ve mal varlığı hakkında bilgi vermek dışında da halkın mahalle, köy, meslek, iş durumları ve bu yerlerde yaşıyan halkın yaşantıları hakkında genel bilgiler de vermekte olduğunu görmekteyiz. Çalışma konusu olarak seçtiğimiz H.1255 Tarihli 3737 Numaralı Musul Eyaleti, Musul Merkez Kazasi Nüfus Defteri, Hicri 1Muharrem1255/ Miladi 17 Mart 1839 yılında kayıt altına alınmıştır. Nüfus defterimiz; Musul'un merkezinde bulunan köyleri ve hane sayılarını belirtmektedir. Devletin vergi vermek ve asker almak amacıyla gerçekleştirdiği bu nüfus defterinde bulunan kişilerin fiziksel özellikleri, yaş, meslek, sağlık problemleri ve iş durumları hakkında bilgi vermektedir. In the Ottoman Empire, the first modern censuses were started in 1829 during the reign of II. Mahmud and continued until the beginning of the XX.th century. These censuses, which were not conducted at regular intervals and were for military and economic purposes, were first conducted in 1828-1829, but could not be completed due to the war. After this an attempt was made to determine the male population in the country through a general census in 1830-1831. In addition, censuses were conducted in some periods to see the population and wealth of the people. As can be understood from this study, population registers and censuses provide general information about the people's neighborhoods, villages, professions, work situations and the lives of the people living in these places, addition to providing information about the religion, ethnic origin, health problems and wealth of the people. The Population Book of the Mosul Province, Mosul Central District, dated 1255 H. and numbered 3737, which we have chosen as the subject of our study, was recorded in the year 1 Muharrem 1255/Gregorian 17 March 1839. Our population book indicates the villages and the number of households in the center of Mosul. This population book, which was prepared by the state for the purpose of paying taxes and recruiting soldiers, provides information about the physical characteristics, age, profession, health problems and employment status of the people in it.
