Yakup Kadri regards Maupassant as a source of inspiration and impression in terms of certain aspects. This is particularly significant during the early years of his authorship when he set off on a quest. Maupassant has been a model for the Turkish writer with, on the one hand, his gloomy, pessimistic and almost egoist and nihilist world view, and, on the other hand, with some of his novels but especially stories including reclusive, obsessive and psychologically ill characters. This article will concentrate on to what extent Yakup Kadri handles the sense of solitude in the French writer’s story Solitude. Eating him up inside and growing as the greatest anxiety and pain in life, this sense will turn into the quest for "reality" after a while, and salvation from this disease of solitude as the biggest mystery of the existence will be identified with access to "real". Acting upon this thought, Yakup Kadri will employ this "reality formula" he received from the French writer in his work and put it into practice in the spiritually diseased world of a paranoid. Thus, both this work of Maupassant and the image of saviour "Mehdi" as a common belief have turned into a parodic structure in Yakup Kadri's writings.
