REFİK HALİD KARAY'IN ROMANLARINDA YAPI VE İZLEK

Abstract

Yazın hayatına Fecr-i Ati ile başlayan ve asıl eserlerini Milli Edebiyat Döneminde veren Refik Halid Karay, gerek edebî kişiliği gerekse gazeteci ve siyasi kimliği ile Türk yazınının önde gelen isimleri arasında yer alır. Yetmiş yedi yıllık yaşamına hikâye, roman, kronik, mizah, anı ve tiyatro türlerinde eserler sığdıran Refik Halid Karay, yazın dünyasındaki bu üretkenliğe ve çeşitliliğe rağmen daha çok hikâyeleri ile bilinir. Oysa 1918 yılından yaşamının sonuna kadar bırakmadığı tek edebî tür romandır. Bu süreçte yirmi romanıyla edebiyata farklı bir soluk kazandıran Refik Halid Karay'ın romanları, edebî ve siyasi bağlamda özgün tanıklıklarıyla geçmişi, şimdiyi ve kimi zaman ise tasarladığı geleceği anlatır. Geniş bir zaman ve mekâna yayılan kurguları eyleme dönüştüren şahısları ile renkli ve canlı bir panorama çizer. Aşk ve kadın merkezli izlekler üzerine kurduğu romanları popüler kültüre hizmet etmekle birlikte arka planda verilen bireysel, toplumsal ve siyasal sorunlar ile dönemine ışık tutmaktadır. Bu çalışmada Refik Halid Karay, öncelikle yaşamı, siyasi görüşü, edebî kişiliği ve eserleri doğrultusunda "monografik" tarzda incelendi. Çalışmanın ana bölümü ise yazarın romanları hakkında bütünsel bir çalışmanın ürünüdür. Yapı bakımından roman teorisine dayandırılan Refik Halid Karay romanları, izlek bakımından tarih, psikoloji, sosyoloji ve felsefeden faydalanılarak disiplinlerarası bir ilişkiyle incelendi.

Refik Halid Karay started his literary life during the period of Fecr-i Ati and produced most of his works in National Literature Period. Refik Halid Karay stands out to be among major Turkish writers of the period due to his literary achievements as well as his political and journalistic views. Refik Halid Karay accomplished to compose his works in various different literary genres; such as short stories, novels, chronicles, humours, memoirs and drama during his lifetime of seventy-seven years. Despite his prolific nature, Refik Halid Karay is mostly known for his stories. Yet, novel is the only genre with which he had never parted starting from 1918 till the end of his life. Within this period, Refik Halid Karay breathed new life into Turkish Literature with his twenty novels. Refik Halid Karay's novels deal with the past and the present in terms of their political and literary aspects as well as reflecting upon the future he had premeditated. His novels draw a picturesque and vivacious panorama owing to their characters that develop the fictions with extensive time and space into actions. Refik Halid Karay's novels that are constructed upon themes such as love and women shed light into the personal, social and political problems of their time as well as contributing to the popular culture. This study examines Refik Halid Karay in accordance with his life, his political views, his literary approach and his works in a "monographic" style. The main body of the study is an output of a holistic approach towards the novels. Refik Halid Karay's novels based upon theory of novel in terms of structure were researched with a relationship of interdisciplinary by exploiting history, psychology, sociology and philosophy in theme.
