Abstract

Albert Memmi's book "Portrait of the Coloniser, Portrait of the Colonised" was written before the Algerian War and is an in-depth study of the processes of colonialism and colonisation. The book accurately depicts the physiognomy and behaviour of the coloniser and the colonised. It examines the lived experiences of the colonised, the motivations of the colonisers and the social, cultural and economic consequences of this process. The aim of the book is to raise awareness of colonialism and colonisation and to help us understand the effects of these processes.
