Distopik zamanın politik inşası: George Orwell'ın 1984 ve Yevgeny Zamyatin'in Biz romanlarında tarih, bellek ve gelecek

Abstract

Bu tez çalışması, George Orwell'ın 1984 (1949) ve Yevgeny Zamyatin'in Biz (1924) adlı romanları üzerinden distopik zamanın politik inşasını tarih, bellek ve gelecek bağlamında incelemektedir. Araştırmanın temel amacı, bu romanlarda iktidarın geçmişi yeniden yazma, belleği dönüştürme ve tek tip bir gelecek sunma tasarılarını inceleyerek, totaliter rejimlerin zaman üzerinde kurduğu hâkimiyetin felsefi ve politik boyutlarını açığa çıkarmaktır. Araştırma, totaliter rejimlerin iktidarlarını yalnızca baskı ve gözetim mekanizmalarıyla değil, aynı zamanda geçmişin yeniden yazılması, belleğin biçimlendirilmesi ve geleceğin ideolojik bir tasarı olarak kurgulanması yoluyla nasıl sürdürdüklerini ortaya koymayı hedeflemektedir. Zamanın politik inşası, Orwell'ın 1984'ünde geçmişin sürekli silinmesi ve belleğin iktidar tarafından manipülasyonu bağlamında incelenirken, Zamyatin'in Biz'inde ise geleceğin matematiksel hesaplamalarla belirlenmesi açısından ele alınmıştır. Bu bağlamda çalışma, her iki eserin zamanın politik inşası açısından benzer ve farklı yönlerini karşılaştırmalı olarak ele almıştır. Ayrıca bu çalışma ile, distopya yazınının totaliter rejimlerin zaman üzerindeki etkilerini görünür kılan eleştirel bir alan sunduğu gösterilmek istenmiştir. Bu tez çalışması, edebiyat ile siyasal felsefe arasındaki ilişkiyi derinleştirme ve distopik anlatıların çağdaş politik bağlamdaki eleştirel önemini ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır.

This thesis examines the political construction of dystopian time in the context of history, memory and future through George Orwell's 1984 (1949) and Yevgeny Zamyatin's We (1924). The main purpose of this research is to reveal the philosophical and political dimensions of the dominance of totalitarian regimes over time by examining the government's plans to rewrite the past, transform memory and present a monotype future in these novels. This research aims to reveal how totalitarian regimes maintain their power not only through mechanisms of oppression and surveillance, but also through rewriting the past, shaping memory, and constructing the future as an ideological project. While the political construction of time is examined in the context of the continuous erasure of the past and the manipulation of memory by the government in Orwell's 1984, it is discussed in terms of determining the future through mathematical calculations in Zamyatin's We. In this context, the study comparatively examines the similarities and differences between the two works in terms of their political construction of time. Furthermore, this study aims to demonstrate that dystopian literature offers a critical space that illuminates the impact of totalitarian regimes on time. This thesis aims to deepen the relationship between literature and political philosophy and to reveal the critical importance of dystopian narratives in the contemporary political context.
