Metaverse (Öte-Evren) Ekolojisinin Eğitime Yansımalarının Değerlendirilmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı, metaverse (öte evren) olgusunu eğitim ve teknoloji ilişkisi perspektifinden analiz etmektir. Derleme niteliğindeki bu çalışmada, ilgili literatürden seçilen veriler doküman analizi yöntemi ile incelenmiştir. Metaverse olgusunun tarihsel arka planı, yapısı, uygulama alanları ve eğitimi dönüştürme potansiyeli ele alınmıştır. Bulgular, yeni nesil internet teknolojilerine dayalı sanal bir ekosistem olan metaversenin, eğitim teorisi ve öğretim uygulamaları üzerinde önemli etkileri olduğunu göstermektedir. Olumlu bir açıdan bakıldığında, metaversenin eğitim içeriğini zenginleştirdiği, öğrencilerin ders materyallerine erişimini artırdığı ve akademik, duygusal ve sosyal gelişimlerini desteklediği belirlenmiştir. Bu nedenle, metaverse ekosisteminin Türk eğitim sisteminin Bilgi Çağı’na uyum sağlamasında önemli katkılar sunma potansiyeline sahip olduğu değerlendirilmiştir. Bununla birlikte, metaversenin formal eğitimi zaman ve mekân bağlamından kopararak bozabileceği, kimlik karmaşasına yol açabileceği ve eğitimin epistemolojik temellerini zayıflatabileceği konusunda endişeler dile getirilmiştir. Ayrıca, metaversenin bağımsız bir eğitim ekosistemine dönüşmesiyle öğrenci, öğretmen ve bilgi kavramlarının rollerinde belirsizlikler yaratabileceği ifade edilmiştir. Son olarak, metaversenin eğitimin sosyal ve politik boyutları üzerindeki etkisinin, bireyin ulusal kimliğini zedeleyerek küresel güçlerin dijital sömürge malzemesi haline getirme riski taşıdığına dikkat çekilmiştir.

The aim of this study is to analyze the metaverse phenomenon from the perspective of the relationship between education and technology. This review study used data selected from relevant literature and analyzed it through document analysis. The historical background, structure, applications, and transformative potential of the metaverse in education were examined. The findings suggest that the metaverse, a virtual ecosystem based on next-generation internet technologies, has notable impacts on educational theory and teaching practices. From a positive perspective, the metaverse enriches educational content, enhances students’ access to learning materials, and supports academic, emotional, and social development. Thus, it has the potential to contribute to the adaptation of the Turkish education system to the Information Age. However, concerns were noted regarding the metaverse’s potential to disrupt formal education by isolating it from time and space, leading to identity confusion and weakening the epistemological foundations of education. Furthermore, as the metaverse transforms into an independent educational ecosystem, it may create ambiguities in the roles of students, teachers, and knowledge. Lastly, its influence on the social and political dimensions of education raises concerns about undermining national identity and exposing individuals to the risks of digital colonialism by global powers.
