An Evaluation of Pedagogical Formation Course Prospective Teachers’ Epistemological Beliefs in terms of Several Variables

Abstract

In this study, epistemological beliefs of prospective teachers enrolled at Pedagogical Formation Course were investigated in terms of gender, education level and department variables. Survey method was used in the study and totally 864 students were included in the study. Data were obtained by using Epistemological Beliefs Questionnaire- EBQ” developed by Chan ve Elliot (2004) and adapted into Turkish by Apay (2011). The scale is a five-point Likert style scale. The items are ranged from “Much agree” to “never agree”. The scale includes four subscales. Cronbach alpha reliability coefficient of the overall scale was measured to be.78. Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficients of the subscales were measured to be .77, .74, .59 ve .52 respectively. Independent groups t test, One Way ANOVA, Levene test, Mann Whitney U, and Kruskal Wallis H tests were used to analyze the data. Bu çalışmada pedagojik formasyon programına kayıtlı öğretmen adaylarının epistemolojik inançları cinsiyet, eğitim durumu ve mezun olunan bölüm türüne göre incelenmiştir. Tarama modeli kullanılan araştırmada, Fırat Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi pedagojik formasyon programına kayıtlı olan 864 öğretmen adayı yer almıştır. Veriler, Chan ve Elliot (2004) tarafından geliştirilen ve Aypay (2011) tarafından Türkçeye çevrilen “Epistemologi­cal Beliefs Questionnaire- EBQ” (Epis­temolojik İnançlar Ölçeği)’ ile toplanmıştır. Ölçek beşli likert tipindedir. Ölçek maddeleri çok katılıyorumdan hiç katılmıyoruma doğru derecelendirilmiştir. Ölçek dört alt boyuttan oluşmaktadır. Ölçeğin geneli için hesapla­nan Alpha katsayısı .78 olarak bulunmuştur. Öl­çeğin dört alt faktörü için hesaplanan Alpha kat­sayıları sırasıyla .77, .74, .59 ve .52’dir. Elde edilen veriler SPSS paket program kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde bağımsız gruplar t testi, tek yönlü varyans analizi, Levene testi, Mann Whitney U ve Kruskal Wallis H testleri kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, öğretmen adaylarının görüşleri arasında ele alınan değişkenler açısından farklılıklar olduğu ortaya konulmuştur.
