Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Vision (CV) technologies is making significant contributions to agricultural applications, particularly in wheat quality assessment. This study examines a critical issue: Suni bug damage and foreign material detection, both of which have a major impact on yield and quality. Traditional pest control and manual inspection methods are labor‑intensive, time‑consuming, and prone to human error. The proposed system aims to capture high‑resolution images of wheat kernels from multiple angles, synchronize the data using timestamps, and employ advanced calibration techniques to ensure accurate detection. This thesis comprehensively evaluates the applicability of deep learning‑based computer vision technologies for wheat kernel classification. Within the scope of the study, a total of 14 different deep learning models were trained and compared on a dataset consisting of 5,155 RGB wheat kernel images from three classes (healthy, damaged, foreign material). The models were grouped into two major families: 9 torchvision CNN models (AlexNet, GoogLeNet, Inception v3, VGG16, VGG19, ResNet50, DenseNet121, MobileNetV3‑Large, EfficientNet‑B0) and 5 YOLO classification variants (YOLOv5s‑cls, YOLOv8n‑cls, YOLO11s‑cls, YOLO11m‑cls, YOLO11l‑cls). All models were trained with the same data split (70% training / 15% validation / 15% test) and consistent hyperparameters, and evaluated on 9 metrics: accuracy, precision, recall, F1, mAP@0.5, mAP@0.5:0.95, IoU, FPS, and latency. Experimental results show that the DenseNet121 model achieved the highest success, with a test accuracy of 94.8%. In terms of speed‑accuracy trade‑off, the YOLO11s‑cls model stood out as the best option with 94.1% accuracy and 744 FPS. For deployment on edge devices, the YOLOv8n‑cls model excelled with a latency of 0.86 ms per image and 1159 FPS. In the generalization capability analysis, EfficientNet‑B0, GoogLeNet, and DenseNet121 were the models with the smallest training‑test gap (≤5 points). Grad‑CAM visualizations revealed that the network focuses on lesion regions in damaged kernels and on the object contour in foreign materials. The findings prove that a deep learning‑based wheat quality control system is feasible for real‑time deployment in industrial inspection lines. This study provides a reproducible benchmarking framework that will lay the groundwork for future agricultural automation systems Keywords: Artificial Intelligence, Sunn Pest Damage, YOLO, Wheat Quality Assessment.
