The study analyzes the issue of child labor with machine learning models using the micro dataset of the Child Labor Force Survey conducted by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) in 2019. Factors affecting child labor are identified by examining factors such as the working status, educational activities and family responsibilities of children in the 5-17 age group. Age group is the independent variable that affects the working status of children the most, and boys are more likely to work than girls. Children who do not continue their education are more likely to work. The working status of children is estimated using Random Forest, XGBoost, Gradient Boosting and SVM machine learning models. The performance of the models was evaluated with accuracy, precision, recall and F1 Score metrics. Random Forest and SVM models showed the highest performance in terms of F1 Score. The findings contribute to an in-depth understanding of the factors affecting child labor with machine learning models and emphasize the importance of shaping policies based on data.
