NURETTİN TOPÇU'DA BATI VE MODERNİZM YAKLAŞIMI

Abstract

Modern en basit tanımıyla "eskiyi yeniden ayırmak" olsa da pek çok tanımı yapılmıştır. Modernizm temelinde zamana dair bir kavram olmasına rağmen bilhassa 19.yüzyıldan sonra sosyolojik bir kavram halini almıştır. Tanımlar, modernizmin Batı'ya ait olduğunda hem fikirdir. Öyle ki bazı Batılı düşünürler ve oryantalistlerce modernizm, Batı ve dışındakiler anlamına gelmektedir. Modernleşme demek endüstrileşme demek olduğundan Batı dışında kalan geri kalmış ülkeler için modernizm ciddi bir sorun halini almıştır. Teknik olarak ilerleyemeyen bu merkez dışı toplumlar modern Batı'nın hammadde ve pazar arayışı sebebiyle hem modernizme maruz kalmış hem de modernizm tarafından sömürülmüşlerdir. Modernizm bir cihan devletiyken, üst üste yaşadığı yenilgilerle kendine gelemeyen Osmanlı'yı da ilgilendirir hale gelmiştir. Osmanlı yaşadığı sıkıntılı süreci başta kabullenemese de daha sonra bunun çağa ayak uyduramamaktan kaynakladığı kanaatine varmıştır. Osmanlı canhıraş Batı'ya yanaşmaya başlamış fakat Batı'nın modernizminin, sanayileşmeden geçtiğini anlayamamıştır. Doğrudan Batı'dan modernizm adına getirdikleri de yarasına merhem olmamıştır. Bu durum Cumhuriyet dönemi için de devam etmiştir. Cumhuriyet dönemi Türk düşünürlerinin temel kaygısı "Nasıl Batılılaşırız?" olmuştur. Batı ve modernizme yaklaşımlarda öne çıkan ve farkını ortaya koyan isimlerden biridir, Nurettin Topçu. Nurettin Topçu, ülkemizde modernizme yönelik muhalefetin önde gelen isimlerinden biridir. Topçu'yu yaşadığı dönemin Türk düşünürlerinden ayıran en önemli farkı eleştirel düşünebilmesidir. Osmanlı'nın zayıflamasından bu yana bütün mütefekkirlerin ortak kaygısı 'nasıl ayağa kalkarız'olmuştur. Bu soruna getirilen çözüm önerileri Batılılaşma ve modernleşme eksenindedir. Topçu, Cumhuriyet Dönemi modernleşme algısına muhalefet olmuş ve Batıyı döneminin düşünürlerinden farklı olarak ele almıştır. Kendisini benimseyen muhafazakâr çizgiden dahi farklı bir modernizm algısına sahiptir. Topçu Batı modernizmi adına kendi değerlerimizden uzaklaşmamızı şiddetle eleştirmiş, sorunların çözümünün yine kendimizde olduğunu belirtmiştir. Bu yüzyılın makine medeniyeti olduğunu ve insanın hürriyetlerini kısıtladığını belirtmiş, modernizmi, kendine has bir bakış açısıyla, dönemin düşünürlerinden farklı şekilde değerlendirmiştir. Bu yüksek lisans tezinde Nurettin Topçu'nun Batı'ya ve modernizme yaklaşımı ele alınmıştır. Topçu'yu çağdaşı düşünürlerden ayıran bakış açıcı bu çalışmanın yapılma sebebidir. Çalışma başta Topçu'nun eserleri, daha sonra Onu anlatan kitap, makale ve yazıların okunup, incelenmesiyle yapılmıştır.

Despite Its simplest definition 'seperating the old from the new one', The word modern has many definitions. Although it is a time-based concept, modernism has become a sociological concept especially after the 19th century. We agree that modernism belongs to the West. For some Western thinkers and orientalists, modernism means the West and the other. As modernization means industrialization, modernism has become a serious problem for non-developed countries except for the West. These technically incapable societies have been both exposed and exploited by modernism in the search for raw materials and markets of the modern West. Modernism began to affect the Ottoman Empire, which could not be the same as due to it was due tı lots of defeats when it was a state. Although the Ottoman Empire could not accept the distressed process at first, it later accepted that it was due to its inability to keep up with the era. The Ottomans began to approach the West frantically, but could not understand that the modernism of the West was due to industrialization. What they brought directly from the West in the name of modernism could not overcome their problems. This situation continued in the Republican period. The basic concern of Turkish thinkers in the Republican period was that ''How do we become westernized?''Nurettin Topçu stands out in his approach to the West and modernism, he is ahead of the names that make the difference. Nurettin Topçu is one of the leading figures of anti- modernism in our country. Topçu thinks critically. This is the most important difference that separates him from the Turkish thinkers of the time. The common concern of all the thinkers since the weakening of the Ottomans has been 'how can we be like before'. The solutions to this problem are in the axis of Westernization and modernization. Topçu has been opposed to modernization in the Republican era and He considered the West as different from the thinkers of his time. He has a different perception of modernism than even religious people who love him.Topçu strongly criticized our separation from our own values in the name of Western modernism, and stated that we had the solution to the problems. He stated that this century was a machine civilization and restricted the freedoms of human. He evaluated modernism in a different way from the thinkers of the period with his own point of view. In this study, Nurettin Topçu's approach to the West and modernism is discussed. The point of view that separates Topçu from contemporary thinkers is the reason for this work. This work is firstly prepared with the works of Topçu, and then with the books, articles and articles about him.
