MÜMTAZ TURHAN'IN DÜŞÜNCELERİ ÜZERİNE SOSYOLOJİK BİR ÇALIŞMA

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Türkiye'nin batılılaşma, demokrasi, bilim ve medeniyet gelişimine büyük bir katkı sağlamış ve ele aldığı kavramlarla ülkemizde bu alana ilişkin önemli bir literatür boşluğunu doldurmaya odaklanmış olan Mümtaz Turhan'ın düşünceleri ele alınmıştır. Türkiye'nin toplumsal değişim ve dönüşümler yaşadığı 20. yüzyılın ikinci ve üçüncü çeyreğine bizzat tanıklık etmiş olan sosyal psikolog Mümtaz Turhan (1908-1969), sosyolog, psikolog, eğitimci ve bilim insanıdır. Birinci Dünya Savaşı ve Kurtuluş Savaşı yıllarında yaşamış, yaşadığı acı tecrübelerle kişiliği, vatan sevgisi ve bağımsız bir millet olma inancıyla şekillenmiştir. Mümtaz Turhan, millet olma unsurlarını güçlendirici kurumlar, ekonomik kalkınma ve toplumsal değişimin sağlanabilmesi için güçlü bir Türkiye'nin oluşabilmesi gerektiğini savunan bir bilim insanıdır. Bu bağlamda batılılaşmaya yönelik alternatifler, eğitim sitemindeki aksaklıklara çözüm getirme, kültür değişmelerinin toplumsal yapıya etkileri, üniversite problemlerini anlama gibi konulara yoğunlaşmıştır. Sonuçta, Turhan'ın düşünce sistemi ve eserleri, yaşadığı dönemin ve hatta bugünün olumsuzluklarının kaynağını anlamada oldukça önem taşımaktadır.

This study examines the thoughts of Mümtaz Turhan, who has made a great contribution to Turkey's westernization, democracy, science and civilization development and focused on filling an important literature gap in our country with the concepts he has addressed. Mümtaz Turhan (1908-1969), a social psychologist who personally witnessed the second and third quarters of the 20th century when Turkey experienced social change and transformation, is a sociologist, psychologist, educator and scientist. He lived during the First World War and the War of Independence, and his personality was shaped by his love of country and his belief in being an independent nation through the bitter experiences he had. He is a scientist who advocates that a strong Turkey should be formed in order to ensure institutions that strengthen the elements of being a nation, economic development and social change. In this context, he has focused on issues such as alternatives to westernization, finding solutions to the deficiencies in the education system, the effects of cultural changes on the social structure and understanding university problems. As a result, Turhan's thought system and works are of great importance in understanding the source of the negativities of the period he lived in and even today.
