A Case of Primary Large B-cell Lymphoma Localized in the Posterior Mediastinum

Abstract

Although lymphoma is one of the commonest mediastinal tumors, mediastinal involvement of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is rare. Primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL) involves mostly anterior or middle mediastinum. Cases of PMBCL involving posterior mediastinum are very rare. Lymphoma was diagnosed after a biopsy via minithoracotomy of a 52-years-old male patient having a posterior mediastinal mass lesion. He had neither lymphadenopathy nor hepatosplenomegaly in physical examination, and radiological evaluation. Gallium 67 scintigraphy showed accumulation only in the mediastinum, revealing the diagnosis of PMBCL. Although very rare, PMBCL should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of posterior mediastinal lesions.
