Şehrin önemini arttıran etkenlerden biri de Maden-i Hümayun Emaneti’nin burada kurulmuş olmasıdır. 1846 tarihinde Harput’a vilayet statüsü kazandırılmış ve idaresine valiler atanarak yönetim yapısı yeniden düzenlenmiştir.
Harput, one of the geographically and culturally significant cities of the Ottoman Empire, is located on an area of 50,000–60,000 square meters and has served as a strategic center throughout history. One of the factors that increased the importance of the city was the establishment of the Maden-i Hümayun Emaneti here. In 1846, Harput was granted the status of a province, and its administrative structure was reorganized through the appointment of governors. Throughout the historical process, Muslim and non-Muslim populations resided together in Harput, and this enabled the formation of a multicultural structure. The arrival of Turks and Muslims in Harput at the initial stage corresponds to the period of Çubuk Bey. While Armenians constituted a significant portion of the non-Muslim population living in Harput, they were followed by the Syriacs. A large part of the population, on the other hand, was situated in the villages due to agriculture being the main source of livelihood for the inhabitants. In the first sections of this study, the place and significance of Harput within the historical process are discussed, and subsequently, the Muslim and non-Muslim populations living in its neighborhoods and villages are examined based on the tables created using the 1312 Mamuratü’l-Aziz Salnamesi, and the findings obtained from these tables are analyzed.
