DANİEL DENNETT VE ÖZGÜR İRADE

Abstract

Daniel Dennett özgür irade üzerine ileri sürdüğü düşünceleriyle günümüzde materyalist felsefede hem eleştirilen hem de hayranlık duyulan aynı zamanda batı felsefesinde bilişsel bilim, bilim felsefesi ve zihin felsefesi konularıyla öne çıkan önemli felsefecilerden biridir. Zihin felsefesinde önemli çalışmaları olan Dennett, bilinç üzerine yaptığı çalışmalarla ses getiren biri olmuştur. Doğaüstü bir güce inanmadan ve düalist bakış açısına sahip olmadan insanın özgür iradeye ve ahlaki sorumluluğa sahip olabileceğini ileri sürmüştür. Özgür iradeyi çeşitli yanılsamalardan kurtarmaya çalışan Dennett, özgür iradeyi evrimsel bir bilinç üzerine inşa etmeye çalışmıştır. Deterministik bir evren anlayışına rağmen insanın bir bilince ve iradeye sahip olduğunu ileri süren teorisiyle günümüzde özgür irade tartışmalarının odağında yer almıştır. İnsanın bir kukla olmadığını ve eylemlerinde de gerekli sorumluluğu taşıdığını ileri sürmüştür. Bilinç Açıklanıyor, Özgürlük Alanı ve Özgürlüğün Evrimi gibi önemli eserleri kaleme alarak bilinç ve özgür irade teorisini temellendirmiştir. Bu doğrultuda çalışmanın giriş bölümünde özgür irade probleminin önemi ve amacı vurgulanmıştır. İkinci bölümde düşünce tarihinde özgür iradenin yeri tespit edilmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde özgür iradenin çağdaş felsefedeki yaklaşımlarına değinilmiştir. Dördüncü bölümde ise Daniel Dennett'ın özgür irade yaklaşımı kendi bakış açısı bağlamında incelenmiştir.

Daniel Dennett is one of the important philosophers who is both criticized and admired in materialist philosophy today with his ideas on free will. He also stands out with cognitive science, philosophy of science and philosophy of mind in western philosophy. Dennett, who has important works in the philosophy of mind, has become a prominent person with his studies on consciousness. He argued that human beings can have free will and moral responsibility without believing in a supernatural power and having a dualist point of view. Trying to save free will from various illusions, Dennett tried to build free will on an evolutionary consciousness. Despite a deterministic understanding of the universe, he has remained at the center of discussions today with his theory that claims that man has consciousness and will. He argued that human being is not a puppet and that he bears the necessary responsibility for his actions. He founded the theory of consciousness and free will by writing important works such as Consciousness Explained, The Field of Freedom and Freedom Evolves. In this respect, the importance and purpose of the free will problem was emphasized in the introduction part of the study. In the second chapter, the place of free will in the history of thought has been determined. In the third chapter, the approaches of free will in contemporary philosophy are mentioned. In the fourth chapter, Daniel Dennett's free will approach is examined in the context of his own perspective.
