Yaşlı Refahına Yönelik Uygulama-Araştırma Alanları Olarak Geronteknoloji ve Sosyal Hizmet İlişkisi

Abstract

Yaşlılık dönemi fiziksel, bilişsel, sosyal ve psikolojik anlamda çeşitli zorlukları içerebilmektedir. Günümüzde teknoloji, bu zorluklar karşısında desteğe ihtiyaç duyan yaşlıların yaşamını kolaylaştıracak şekilde tasarlanmalıdır. Geronteknoloji, yaşlılar için işlevselliği iyileştiren teknoloji tabanlı ürünlerin, ortamların ve hizmetlerin geliştirilmesini ve dağıtılmasını amaçlamaktadır. Bu yönüyle hem yaşlıların hem de yaşlıya bakım veren bireylerin yaşam kalitesini artırmaktadır. Öte yandan geronteknolojinin sosyal boyutu olarak değerlendirilebilecek bazı faktörler de ele alınmalıdır. Sosyal hizmet mesleği bunu sağlamada geronteknolojinin paydaşlarından biri olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Yaşlıların geronteknolojik ürünlere ve uygulamalara erişimi, bu ürünleri ve uygulamaları kullanmaya ilişkin eğitim ve bilgi düzeyleri, kabul ve tutumları, güvenlik ve gizlilik ilkeleri, etik durumlar gibi konular yaşlılarla çalışan sosyal hizmet uzmanları ve akademisyenleri tarafından ele alınmalıdır. Bunu gerçekleştirmek, yaşlıların geronteknolojik ürünler ve uygulamalardan etkili bir şekilde yararlanabilmelerini sağlamanın yanı sıra teknoloji yoluyla yaşlı istismarını önlemek için de önemlidir. Sosyal hizmet müdahalesinde de geronteknolojik ürünler ve uygulamalardan yararlanılması, bunu yapabilmek için sosyal hizmet uzmanlarının teknolojik okuryazarlıklarını artırmaları gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada, geronteknoloji alanı literatür desteği ile açıklanmış ve geronteknoloji ile sosyal hizmet ilişkisi geronteknolojinin sosyal boyutu odağında ele alınmıştır.

Old age can involve various physical, cognitive, social and psychological difficulties. Today, technology should be designed to facilitate the lives of elderly people who need support in the face of these difficulties. Gerontechnology aims to develop and distribute technology-based products, environments and services that improve functionality for elders. Gerontechnology improves the quality of life of both the elderly and the individuals who care for the elderly. On the other hand, some factors that can be considered as social dimensions also need to be addressed. The social work profession is considered as one of the stakeholders of gerontechnology in ensuring this. Issues such as the elderly's access to gerontechnological products and applications, their level of education and knowledge, acceptance and attitudes regarding the use of these products and applications, security and confidentiality principles and ethical situations should be addressed by social workers and academicians working with the elderly. Achieving this is important to ensure that older people can effectively benefit from gerontechnological products and practices as well as to prevent elder abuse through technology. Gerontechnological products and applications should be used in social work intervention, and in order to do this, social workers should increase their technological literacy. In this study, the field of gerontechnology is explained with the support of literature and the relationship between gerontechnology and social work is discussed focusing on the social dimension of gerontechnology.
